Well we did it, we bought a house! Let me repeat that…we bought a house! We closed last Wednesday and everything went as smoothly as we could have hoped so the place is ours! We both took off Wednesday and Friday so we could get a few things done (or at least started) and then spent our weekend continuing the work (and believe me, there is plenty of work to be done). We don’t have to be out of our current apartment until May 1st, so we have a little bit of time to finish some of the inside work before moving our stuff in. So this weekend, we spent all of our time cleaning and painting the ceilings, walls and trim work, cleaning the windows and addressing the couple little things that needed to be fixed.
The floors are mostly hardwood (like you can see above), and for the most part, they’re pretty worn, so we are having someone in tomorrow afternoon to look at them and see how much work it’d be to restore them to their original luster. The paint scheme was pretty good the way it was, but we decided to repaint a few rooms (read: all rooms) and just touch up the trim and any woodwork that needed it. It has really made a huge difference, and makes the place look a lot cleaner and fresher. We decided to go with earthy tones throughout, so we’ve got a lot of browns and greys and greens and the floors are a warm brown, so it’s really starting to feel like home.
I wish the weather would cooperate a little more so I could get a few outside shots of the house, but it’s been raining pretty much the whole time we’ve been at the house this weekend, so I’m afraid I don’t have any good ones. I’ll post one next week, but in the meantime, here’s the “before” picture. I’m sure in the coming weeks I’ll post more pictures of the house, but all I can smell is paint, and Allyse and I are pretty pooped from all the work this weekend, so stay tuned for more photos next week sometime!
