bright lights, big city…twenty-nine of fifty-two

What a week.  Still didn’t start my job, but found out on Wednesday that the contracts went through and I’ll be able to start work next Wednesday.  My official title is “Deconstruction Intern”.  Sounds like it’s going to be awesome, and I really can’t wait.  Not to mention, it will be nice to finally start collecting a paycheck.

I went golfing with O’Neill yesterday, over at The Legend at Bristlecone Pines.  What a tough course, especially when I’m used to playing the par 70 Songbird Hills… It could have gone better, but it was my first time playing there this year and it took about 5 holes before I got used to the speed of the greens.  As Ryan’s brother, Sean, so nicely put it: “Steve should have brought his fancy camera so at least he’d have some good shots today…”  Just one of those days I guess.  It was a nice day, and it didn’t cost me anything, so I guess I can’t complain too much…

Today I went to play tennis with Kristen and Dad for a few hours.  It was super hot and a lot of fun, but man am I sore tonight.  Got pretty sunburnt as well, between that and golfing yesterday…yay summer.  Also, I saw the A-Team today.  I had heard mixed things about it, but it was awesome.  I love those kind of rock ’em sock ’em movies.  Don’t get me wrong, there was a good plot as well…all around a good movie, I’d recommend it.

This picture is from the first Jazz in the Park that I made it to this year (stupid chemistry messing with my social calendar…haha).  Interesting thing about this building, the bottom half is made from concrete and for the upper floors they switched to a steel frame.  Something about some unexpected foundation problems and they had to reduce the weight to avoid further problems.  One of my structural professors was a consultant for the project and had some pictures from its construction.  Maybe that’s something that only holds interest among structural engineers, but it shows that I’m actually learning something from MSOE 🙂

Have an awesome week, get out and enjoy the weather at Summerfest!
